Musings

Where I Belong:

Santa Monica Pier and the blue Pacific

Sea! There is nothing I do not love about the ocean – I grew up near it, have tried to live near the oceans and seas of the world! I am a Pisces, so naturally that is my affinity…there is nothing like floating on top of a gently moving sea, knowing that below me is an entire world just hoping I will visit.

Dating Scene:

I’ve only asked one man out on a date…it was a luncheon date at the Library patio cafe. I was exhilarated – that’s the best word! I had not seen this person for nearly 30 years and there’s was such excitement for both of us, with a bit of fairy dust tossed gently over us. It was magic!

Classroom Crisis:

Possibly the experience that turned me away from art and into writing occurred in the 4th grade. Our instructions were to use any medium to recreate a phalaenopsis orchid in the classroom. I used oils and expressionism. Apparently that is not what the nun (I conveniently forget her name) wanted. Oh well

Best Teacher:

The best teacher I’ve ever had (and I have been fortunate to have brilliant teachers along life’s paths) was my mother. Aggie left us for heaven the end of January this year, but the bond between us was READING. Aggie taught me to read at 2 1/2 and we kept reading together for 65 years! Her favorite author was Willa Cather, and I read “Death Comes For the Archbishop” at her request during her last month. One’s best teacher is the one who taught reading and the love of books! Thanks Mom

Lurking in the Deep:
Deep end of the ocean….

It is a dark and stormy night….as she walks carefully over the broken shells and rough sand she feels the foam curl around her ankles. Just a little more and she knows the shelf drops off into deeper water – water she can no longer stand up straight as she is now, waving her arms gently over the swells and skipping lightly. She ought not be out there at night. She knows that – yet there she is, taking chances with her very life. Musing about this something slinky slithers between her legs, knocking her off-balance.

Deja Vu:

If you step out of a car, walk off of a curb, stroll through a park, enter a building – you get the picture! You know (not think, believe or feel) but KNOW you have been there before but cannot find the source in this lifetime you are experiencing the ages-old sense of deja vu – having been there before…happens all the time, but most people just disregard this sense. Not I! I have a little diary just ready to note these experiences – I have about 60 years’ worth now!

Something you might want to consider….

Deja vu of course! Is this a trick question?? Do you remember the first time you saw the Colosseum in Rome, and thought, “Wow, this is so familiar! I even know where the Gladiators Gate is!” deja vu…

Vice, Be Gone
Chocolate, especially dark chocolate is necessary for my well-being and feelings of completion. Chocolate at night,

however, beckons some of the strangest dreams I’ve ever had! Not nightmarish, just weird. Last night I mistakenly ate chocolate before going to sleep; my dream: my BFF was living next door to me, but left in the dead of night after being foreclosed – house was used the next day for Julianna Marguiles’ wedding! Oh and Ben Affleck was on a scavenger hunt at the same venue! Did I mention strange, strange dreams?!?!?!
